Staging your home is like getting ready for a date - you want to look your best. It doesn't always mean spending a lot of money; often it's just a matter of common sense. Here are some key guidelines for making your home shine.

• Take nearly everything off the kitchen and bathroom countertops. Think open surfaces.

• Clean out bookshelves and closets to eliminate clutter. And, yes, that includes limiting the number of family photos.

• Buy fresh towels for all bathrooms.
